How to operate a food waste disposer?
Follow these step a grind food waste through an InSinkErator Food Waste Disposer
Step by step operation
- Turn on the cold water tap and let it run.
- Turn on the disposer using the air switch button on your bench.
- Feed food waste into the disposer gradually – do not overload.
- Allow the disposer to fully grind the waste before adding more.
- Once grinding is complete, turn off the disposer.
- Keep the cold water running for a further 30 seconds to flush waste through the pipes.
- Turn off the water.
Simple maintenance habits
- Run cold water every time – never hot water while grinding
- Feed waste gradually, not all at once
- Freshen monthly with citrus rinds or a handful of ice cubes
- Avoid fats, oils and grease at all times
- Never use harsh chemicals or drain cleaners – they damage the seals and components
What to do if the disposer jams
- Turn off the disposer and the water immediately.
- Do not put your hand inside.
- Use the Jam-Buster wrench in the socket at the base of the unit to manually free the grinding plate.
- Press the red reset button on the base of the unit.
- Turn the water back on and restart.
Cold water in. Waste out. Keep it gradual and your disposer will do the rest.
